Thorstein Veblen's The Theory of The Leisure Class describes earlier phases of this predatory culture where the only economic differentiation
was between a superior class of able-bodied businessmen on one side, and an inferior class of labouring women on the other.
Given that women began to get the vote in 1920, what better way for the male-dominated advertising world to react than to suddenly enfranchise the female population
by reaffirming male dominance over women through advertisement.
